An exciting opportunity for an artist to work alongside the Arts Development team as part of this year’s Aberdeen’s Older People’s Festival.

Artist’s Brief
1. Background
Aberdeen City Council has held a festival for the older citizens of the City for nine years. The festival offers a range of activities, from rock climbing to sugar-craft with the aim of encouraging active participation from the older citizens 50+ age range.
As the festival has grown over the years the project evaluators have identified that activities offered to care providers in the city generally are non participatory. Events have been offered to provide residents in care with entertainment over the festival period.
In recent years, research has shown that Art in health and social care can:
• Develop self-confidence and self-esteem
• Improve staff and patient relationships and morale
• Improve social skills
• Help communication on many levels
• Decrease social isolation
• Enhance mental and physical health and well-being
• Develop creativity in the workplace
• Improve sensory awareness and physical dexterity
• Provide opportunities to develop new skills
• Enhance the environment of health and social care facilities
