Step Change: Call for Creative Practitioners

The Creative Learning Team is part of Aberdeen City Council, Education, Culture and Sport. The team works to improve outcomes for individuals and communities through the arts, culture and creativity.

Are you a Creative Practitioner?

musician/drama practitioner/public artist/writer/dancer

photographer/film maker/visual artist/designer…..

From May 2013 – 2015, Step Change aims to improve outcomes for young people at risk of or involved in offending in Aberdeen. 

We are looking to develop a database of Creative Practitioners who have:

  • a minimum of 2 years experience in using their specialist art form(s) in participatory settings
  • the ability to establish a rapport and proven track record in building relationships with challenging young people who are in the Youth Justice System

 If you have the appropriate skills and experience and are interested in sessional work* please complete the application form.

(*sessional work 3+ hours per week in blocks of 5 – 10 weeks).

Fees: £175 per day (pro rata) inclusive of preparation and delivery.

 Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a short interview for submission to the programme. Selected applicants will have the opportunity to access free training in this field and to deliver sessions as part of the Step Change programme.

Temporary Art School, exciting new project taking place in Aberdeen

Temporary Art School is a one month live project happening throughout the city of Aberdeen in March 2012. A group of people living and working in both Aberdeen and Glasgow have come together to put on classes and workshops which experiment with what an art school can be and continue in a long tradition of self-organised education.The school is free and no previous experience of art education or training is required. The project will be documented and shown at The Pipe Factory as part of Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art 2012.

Artist Opportunities – Arts Development ‘Next Step’

Aberdeen City Council’s Arts Development is looking for freelance artists to deliver arts workshops as part of our Cashback funded youth arts programme ‘Next Step’. We are looking for artists with exciting, dynamic practices as well as strong communication skills and experience of working in participatory settings. You will be working with young people from challenging backgrounds in small group settings and on a one to one basis (with supervision support) around the city.

We are particularly interested in artists who work in cross-media, photography, filmmaking and animation but we are also open to artists from other discipline backgrounds as well.
