Free Summer Art Activity Packs

On Saturday 18th June Arts Development  invited people along to the Aberdeen Art Gallery to have a sneak preview of what creative activities the team are available to offer over the summer holidays.

Arts Development have devised five exciting children’s art and wildlife activity packs for summer 2011 suitable for children ages 5-12 years activities include:

1. Create a Creature  –  Using our ready made ‘create a creature’ template and other materials you can design your own unique 3D textile creature.  Use the cloth template with other accessories such as ribbons, wool and buttons to create an animal unique to your imagination.

2. Creature Comforts – Create A Home For Your Creature!
You will be creating a natural or magical environment for your creature in the form of a pop up model environment, complete with its own foliage growing out of the model (cress seeds).

3. Creatures Anatomy – Create Your Own Animal Skeleton
You will be creating your own 3D creature sculpture (which can be freestanding or hung form the ceiling) using the simple tools of basket cane and masking tape.

4. Creatures Close Up – Create Your Own Microscopic Art Work
Have you ever imagined what the world looks like through the eyes of a creature?
You will be creating your own microscopic style art work, using the natural world for environment.  Think bees and honeycombs, birds and feathers etc.

5. Creatures Tracks and Trails – Create Your Own Shadow Theatre
Play a game of hide and seek using creatures.  Lead your audience around your shadow theatre to discover which creatures are hiding behind trees and hills.  You will be creating mini hand-shadow puppet theatre with your own hand made shadow puppets, using tracing paper and acetate.

The summer activity packs are to run in conjunction with Aberdeen Art Gallery’s summer exhibition Wildlife Photographer of the Year which is owned by the Natural History Museum and BBC Wildlife Magazine and runs from 11 June – 20 August.
Arts Development are working in partnership with Aberdeen Art gallery to offer ‘Go Wild’ Art Adventure, each Sunday there will be a different activity for families with children aged 5 +.
