Aberdeen Arts Awards 2011, Nominations wanted

Residents in Aberdeen are invited to nominate an individual or group that meet the following criteria:

a volunteer group, community group or individual who have consistently worked in the arts in the city;
an individual who has proved inspirational to others, in a professional capacity, or who has acted as an arts ‘ambassador’ internationally or nationally for Aberdeen;
an organisation who has a track record of providing a major contribution to the cultural life of the city;
an individual or group who shows outstanding commitment to bringing the arts to as wide an audience as possible;
an individual or organisation committed to producing high quality creative work in Aberdeen;
a lifetime achievement in the arts for an individual or organisation.
Nominations are invited of individuals or organisations with a supporting statement, explaining the reasons for nomination, on no more than 1 side of A4 and emailed to vibrantaberdeen@aberdeencity.gov.uk Nominations close on Friday 27 May 2011.

Arts and Business Scotland’s director Barclay Price said: “We are delighted to be bringing our Scotland 2011 awards back to the Music Hall in Aberdeen, as we recognise the strength of business support from Aberdeen companies for the arts.

“We are also especially pleased that Aberdeen City will be marking the special contribution made to the development of Aberdeen’s cultural life with this special award.”

Aberdeen City Councillor Callum McCaig, Convenor of Education, Culture and Sport Committee said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to nominate someone or a group that they think deserve recognition for their commitment to the arts in Aberdeen. I’m looking forward to finding out who will be the winner of this very prestigious arts award.”

The Arts and Business Awards panel 2011 comprises of a range of high profile individuals, including former Chief Executive of Aberdeen City Council Sue Bruce, and Robert Collier, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce. The winners will be chosen by the panel when it meets on Tuesday 14 June 2011.

The winners of each category will be presented with a special award, designed and made by tutors of Gray’s School of Art.
